Regional Artisan: Fired Up For Art
"Artists make magic for those who may not have the courage to create magic for themselves,” says artist Philip Bellomo. “To work in this field,” the native New Yorker continues, “one must not be restricted.
“It takes courage to be an artist. From the time we are born, often there is someone saying, ‘Don’t waste your time on art — do something more practical.’ I’ve always fought against this mentality. I tell artists to give themselves room to imagine, hope and dream. That’s the foundation of creativity.”
Working in many mediums including ceramics, oil painting and sculpture, Bellomo discovered his affinity for art at age eight.
